Eagle High

Every student enrolled in Eagle High must take two courses with us each academic year. This year we are offering the following courses and youshould choose to take two of them. Generally a student should take courses that are in different subject areas, for example Medieval Literature and Biology rather than Earth Science and Biology.

      • History of English

      • Christian Fantasy Literature

      • English Literature

      • Ancient History: Mesoptamia to the Middle Kingdom

      • Modern History

      • Biology

      • History of Science

      • Foundations in Neuroscience

      • Chemistry

      • Archaeology and Anthropology

      • Computer Literacy

      • Apologetics

You may choose additional courses from Eagle High for a tuition fee of $530 per course. Any student may choose to enroll in a particular Eagle High course by paying tuition and the registration fee without becoming enrolled as an Eagle High student. Students taking our courses as electives will receive a written evaluation of their performance at the end of the academic year.

Students enrolled in Eagle High receive credit on their transcripts for all completed Eagle High courses. Instructors who offer courses for Eagle High are highly qualified professional educators who stay in contact with students by e-mail. They evaluate the quality of student academic on a regular basis. If there is sufficient student interest, groups of students enrolled in the same classes may meet together in small groups for discussion in our cyberspace classrooms at Eagle Academy at Diversity University (moo.du.org:8000)

.Remember while planning for an academic year that (1) you may have requirements mandated by your state department of education to meet, or (2) you may want to fulfill requirements for an Eagle Diploma.

      Other Courses

There are variety of sources available to students for additional coursework. For example, students can enroll in courses at a local junior college, a museum or correspondance school. Students may want to sign up for a swim team, piano lessons, or with a local theater group. If you will submit a course syllabus or a written description of a plan of study early in the academic year, we would be happy to provide you with feedback. In some cases we may recommend that a student complete additional self-study so the activity will meet Eagle High academic standards. For example we might recommend that a student taking music lessons also read about the history of music or study music theory and then complete a paper or project for academic credit.

There are at over a thousand college level courses currently being offered on the internet. Many of these courses post a detailed syllabus with required readings and assignments outlined (see MIT's for example). You can use almost any of these as a plan for self-study. In general a one semester college level course is the equivalent of one Eagle High credit. Keep this in mind as you plan your curriculum. It is not necessary for a student to pay college tution to the institution offering the course to receive Eagle High credit for the course. It will be necessary for the student to complete the work outlined on the syllabus and to demonstrate knowledge of the material.

In some cases the amount of work outlined on an upper level college syllabus may be too much for a high school student. Feel free to modify the requirements and submit the modified version to us for evaluation. We would be happy to provide you with feedback in advance. If you are a student and have your heart set on learning something, please contact us. We are willing to design courses for our students. If you are familiar with the concepts of convergent and divergent thinking you can see that we want Eagle High to be as academically divergent as possible while maintaining high academic standards. We appreciate your suggestions.

      Why this tuition system?

Perhaps you wonder why Eagle High has this sort of tution structure. Why don't we just have all students enrolled in Eagle High take 5 courses a year from us and charge $2650 a year tution? The answer is that Eagle Academy is committed to making quality private education affordable for as many students as possible. We believe many bright, computer literate high school students are sufficiently self-motivated they can work indendently of direct supervision in some courses. As you can see from our course list, we are not offering mathematics courses at this time. We believe Saxon Mathematics offers an outstanding product for homeschoolers. It is economical for students to use Saxon curriculum and earn mathematics credits by passing Eagle High comprehensive exams over the Saxon Math books to earn their math credits.
