Why would a student choose to enroll in Eagle High without attempting to earn an Eagle Diploma? We have adopted very high academic standards for awarding the Eagle Diploma and some students might prefer to meet (lesser) state requirements. Our standards include maintaining a grade point average of C+ or better while completing the following requirements:
The fee for enrollment in Eagle High includes tuition for two courses offered by Eagle Academy each year. Students may choose to pay for additional courses through Eagle High or they may make other arrangements for fulfilling our requirements and having that work evaluated by us and included on their Eagle High transcript.
There are a variety of ways for people to learn now that we live in the midst of an information revolution: self-study, museum courses, junior colleges, correspondence courses, and internet based courses. In general Eagle High accepts academic credit officially awarded by any educational institution. The Eagle student merely needs to provide us with an official transcript or final report card and a syllabus for the course. Work done in other settings will need to be evaluated by the staff at Eagle Academy to ensure that it meets our academic standards before credit is awarded for it. The fees for evaluating work done in these alternative settings will depend on the complexity of the evaluation. Fees begin at a modest $30.00 for evaluating work in a mathematics course (where we provide a year end exam to be taken with a proctor present). Fees could possibly range upwards to several hundred dollars if the area of study is so specialized that we need to contract with a Ph.D. to properly evaluate the student's work. Examples of this would include students working on botany in a rain forest, working on an archaeological dig in the Middle East, or diving with a marine biology research team. Obviously, experiences such as these are truly educational and deserve to be properly documented for the student's portfolio.
It has been said that there are only two lasting bequests we give our children, one is roots, and the other is wings. Our educational objectives are intended to provide young men and women with deep roots and strong wings. We believe that to be properly educated, a person must be on intimate terms with the heritage of human civilization and equally well-versed in science and technology.
In addition to cyberspace contact with instructors, Eagle High provides mentors to those families who select this option. Mentors meet with students in cyberspace on a weekly basis. The additional fee for this service is used to contract with academically qualified mentors who will challenge our high school students to think critically about the material they are studying across all of their courses. Meetings with mentors will take place at mutually convenient times in the cyberspace classrooms of Eagle Academy (for a minimum of two hours each week). Transcripts of these meetings can become a part of a student's permanent portfolio. This option may be an especially good choice for busy parents who may not have enough time to discuss academic topics with the student. It is also a good option for students who are reluctant writers!
