Individualized Home Instruction Plan for Level Three

The following is an example of an Individualized Home Instruction Plan (IHIP) which might be submitted to the state of New York for a student enrolled in Level Three in Eagle Academy. Not all states require parents to submit these plans, but this will provide interested parents with an overview of the some of the work being done by a student enrolled in Level Three. Please Note: Not all of the curriculum being completed by a Level Three Eagle Academy student is included here as the complete scope and sequence is only available to students who are enrolled in the Academy.

    Mathematics

Saxon Algebra 1/2 (their name for a pre-algebra course) covers all the topics normally covered in this level of a course as well as additional topics from geometry and discrete mathematics, and is recommended for use by seventh graders who plan to take first-year algebra in the eighth grade.

Algebra 1/2 represents the culmination of the study of pre-algebra mathematics. Students completing the program are expected to be well-versed in the following areas: fractions, decimals, mixed numbers, signed numbers, numbers in base 2, arithmetic operations involving all these forms of numbers, order of operations, percents, proportions, ratios, divisibility, rounding, place value, unit conversions, scientific notation, and word problems involving these pre-algebra concepts. Students are also introduced to rudimentary algebra topics such as the simplification and evaluation of algebraic expressions and the solution of linear equations with one unknown. Also included are geometric concepts and topics such as the perimeter, area, surface area, volume, and classification of geometric figures and solids, and geometric constructions and symmetry.
