Video Math

The Chalk Dust Company provides Math VideoLearning Tools including Algebra I, Algebra II, College Algebra, SAT Math Review, and Trigonometry: A Graphing Approach.

These video based courses allow students to repeat material on difficult topics. A video is by its very nature self-paced instruction. These are comprehensive video learning programs. Each video series reviews every core topic that is typically included in each of the particular courses.

The complete Algebra II video course costs $339 (the last information we had here at Eagle Academy). For this price the student gets a complete package of eleven tapes, text, and a solutions guide. The lessons on the video are coordinated with the lessons in the text book. Concepts and sample exercise are presented on the video and then the student completes exercises at the end of a section in the text book. There are typically about 100 problems for each section (the answers to the odd problems are in the book.) The problems are worked out in the Student Solutions Guide.

The Student Solutions Guide is especially helpful for families where the parents have weak math backgrounds since it outlines each step in solving all the problems for which answers are provided in the book. The Heath text contains numerous practical application problems and has a stronger emphasis on concepts understanding than Saxon's Algebra I. Saxon Math covers more territory and can be self-taught.

The starter kit for less money will get your student going for a smaller initial investment. It includes both the text and the Students' Solution Guide plus the first video.
